Grand Celebration on the 125th Birth Anniversary of Sumitranandan Pant at India’s First “Writer’s Village”
Poetic Tribute and Documentary Screening Honor the Gentle Poet of Nature
A grand literary and cultural event was organized at the country’s first “Writer’s Village” to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of renowned Hindi poet and nature lover, Sumitranandan Pant. On this occasion, around 74 students from various schools of Dehradun participated in a heartfelt poetry recital, presenting some of Pant’s timeless poems as a tribute.
Participating schools included Sunrise Academy, Summer Valley, Doon Blossom, New Doon Blossom, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy, D.A.V. Public School, St. Xavier’s, Government Inter College Thano, and Doon Bhawani Inter College.
The event began with the rendition of the patriotic song “Jai Jan Bharat Janmat Abhimat Jan Ganatantra Vidhata,” composed by Pant himself.

A highlight of the event was the screening of the documentary “Sumitranandan Pant Tourism Path”, produced by the Centre for Mountain Tourism and Hospitality, Garhwal University. The film was directed by Ashish Lakhera and coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Savita Mohan. This initiative marked a strong step toward promoting literary tourism in Uttarakhand.
The program was guided by Sunrise Managing Director Mrs. Pooja Pokhriyal and Dr. Sarvesh Uniyal.
The event concluded with a melodious performance of the song “Writer’s Village is Ours” by Sunrise Academy students, which was widely appreciated by the audience.
Certificates of appreciation were distributed to all participating students by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and other dignitaries. The program was presided over by Dr. Savita Mohan and efficiently anchored by Mrs. Monika Sharma and “Bal Kavi Goshti” was done by Ayushi Juyal and Zoya Mansuri students of Class IX.
